a slow disassociation with the material…

// March 12th, 2009 // No Comments » // My Life, My Thoughts

Something that seems to be happening to me lately…

Is it possible that we can slowly learn to forget the material things in life to the point that we see things completely different?

The bible says in James 1:14-15  But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”

As I believe I have often said, selfishness is the basis of every conflict with God. (I tend to avoid the use of the word “sin” at this point because almost no one understands it at all anymore.. and by objectifying it have completely missed the point of what God is trying to teach us.)

anyways… Lust is essentially selfishness. If you look at the effects of lust you pretty much cover the gamut of “bad things people do”

so what happens if you truly become a “New Creature” and God begins to teach you selflessness? can you actually lose your “Lust”?

This first happened for me when I was set free from the addiction to pornography… there was a time that if I looked at a woman I was pretty much lusting after her…and thus committing adultery in my heart. This idea was unbearable to me.. and a constant nagging condemnation that was almost impossible to escape. Once I begged for release and received it (details covered here) one of the first things that I noticed was that my mind was free from the lust that once consumed it… but push to push this even further… by allowing yourself to be transformed by the renewing of your mind could you learn to see people as God sees them? … neither male or female… but souls… precious beautiful souls struggling to survive like a fish out of water?

I believe that I am actually experiencing “a slow disassociation with the material… ” I believe that God is transforming me through the renewing of my mind… to see… spiritually.

We do not trust ourselves for good reason… we are naturally selfish and that manifests as wickedness. BUT! if we quit focusing on our sin and learn to be selfless we may find that vices that have plagued us for years become no more than fuzzy memories of childish passions.

It is ironic to me that once you release your grip on the material world that you actually realize how flimsy it is compared to actual “reality”

The real task is learning to let go… It is about as hard as convincing yourself to commit to taking a deep breath underwater… yeah… its that hard… and very similar in most respects… it is the death of your carnal desire… and it probably should have been done a long time ago anyways…

Genius… finding something, and Foo Fighters?!

// January 24th, 2009 // No Comments » // My Music, My Thoughts

Don’t you love finding something that you had no idea you owned? It’s almost better that getting something you always wanted! There is just something about finding out you already own something you didn’t know you wanted yet!

Well recently I have been jamming to the Foo Fighters album on iTunes, and iTunes has a cool function now called genius that finds songs similar to the one you are listening to. Well, I clicked genius and up comes a song by Jars of Clay called “Work” and I re-discovered it!

It is a great song I was really hit by the lyrics and how they describe a struggle similar to my post Obsession… Gratification… Peace What really grabbed me the most are the following lines from the lyrics..

“I have no fear of drowning, it’s the breathing that’s taking all this work”

“Now all the demons look like prophets and I’m living out
every word they speak, every word they speak”

The great thing about songs is that the lyrics can be interpreted a million different ways… But to me this song seems to be about the struggles of materialism, and how empty it is… How we use things to fill our emptiness, alone-ness, and how we struggle against the constant undertow of materialism…trying to breathe! -“I have no fear of drowning, it’s the breathing that’s taking all this work”

I also see our struggles with the materialistic nature of television and how we are constantly bombarded with the “things we need” and how we just “live out every word they speak” by buying into all the hype… “Now all the demons look like prophets and I’m living out
every word they speak, every word they speak”

Listening to the “Good Monsters” album and There are some pretty good songs there!

so check out the lyrics of “Work”

Just in case, I will leave my things packed so I can run away
I cannot trust these voices

I don’t have a line of prospects that can give some kind of peace
There is nothing left to cling to that can bring me sweet release
I have no fear of drowning, it’s the breathing that’s taking all this work

Do you know what I mean when I say, ‘I don’t want to be alone.’
What I mean when I say, ‘I don’t want to be alone.’

Empty spaces, shadows hit by street lights
warning signs and weight of tired conversations

In the absence of a shoulder, in the abscess of a thief
On the brink of this destruction, on the eve of bittersweet
Now all the demons look like prophets and I’m living out
every word they speak, every word they speak

Do you know what I mean when I say, ‘I don’t want to be alone, ‘
What I mean when I say, ‘I don’t want to be alone’
What I mean when I say, ‘I don’t want to be alone.’

Do you know what I mean when I say, ‘I don’t want to be alone.’….
I have no fear of drowning. It’s the breathing that’s taking all this work.

Hypotheticals

// October 22nd, 2008 // 1 Comment » // My Life, My Thoughts

Hypothetical situations are a pain!    but are also great tools to find out what we believe

I am dealing with a few hypothetical situations that I find difficult to answer truthfully because they bring me face to face with some serious issues in my character, ethics, morality or my understanding of  Gods principals.
a few assumptions to start.
#1. we should never lie
#2 we should never kill
#3 you should always do the right thing.
situation 1
you are smuggling jews in the trunk of a car(illegally) in Nazi Germany,  a guard stops you and asks you if you have seen any Jews.  what do you do?
situation 2
300 people are trapped in a building that is known to have bombs planted inside, a bomber confronts you holding a detonator promising to pull the trigger if you don’t do what he asks. – what he asks is impossible. what do you do?
situation 3
You wake up  and someone is in your house they have a gun and aim it at you with full intent to pull the trigger. You know that there is a  99.9% chance your entire family will be dead, kidnapped, raped, in within minutes after he pulls the trigger, killing you. What do you do?
do you lie to save some?
do you kill one to save many?
do you fight to preserve your life? for the sake of your family?
what does that mean that you beleive?
To me this is where everyone has to get off of the moral high horse and face the reality that what we have been taught may not be exactly what God said. I am not saying the bible is wrong… not at all, I am saying that “you” may be wrong about what it says.
so give me some feedback.. what does the bible say about those things?
fair warning to comment posters!!! be sure of your comments because comments are fair game!  while this is not a hostile environment, rhetoric will probably not survive long  here!

// October 9th, 2008 // 1 Comment » // My Music

I just put the final touches on “breathe” the new single on my EP Exiztance The song is a challenge to seek truth and dare to believe in Christ. The song will be my first public release of music although I have been writing for more than 15 years!!! I know you are thinking… man this better be good.. well you be the judge – but fair warning.. my music comes with the same disclaimer as the website.. go read it!!! The Exiztance EP will be available on Itunes and several other online music stores. I originally titled this post… getting things done, because it has taken so long to get here. This is probably one of the most exciting times in my life. It has been a life long dream to be a “recorded artist” so in that sense… I am finally “Getting things done”
