When is enough… enough? GET OVER IT!!!

// August 4th, 2009 // 14 Comments » // My Thoughts

man pulling his hair out in frustration

I think this adequately describes my emotions at the moment of inspiration

It seems the media these days is full of news… about the economy, the democratic agenda, the republican agenda, whats happening on Wall Street, how somebody got away with something and everybody else had to pay for it. In some ways.. its good to know the truth about things… to be informed so that you can make good decisions and survive in an increasingly “dog eat dog” world.

I tend to enjoy the social media circle to some extent..I use twitter, facebook, most often and I like to share my favorite websites on Stumbleupon.com . I like being connected to people, my family, friends, and just the occasional acquaintance… I even check in on a few enemies occasionally to see what they are doing in their mad scientist laboratories!

Recently however my social media has become crowded with… how do I say it nicely RAVING LUNATICS!   it seems everywhere I go I am barraged by virtual sign waving screaming crowds of “conservative protesters”  they fill my normally entertaining social media with “this is why obama is evil”, “this is further proof of obamas evil plan”  and “here is even more proof! he was actually born in Australia and they wouldn’t take him!”  the list of antichrist predictions, conspiracy theories, petitions, videos, crappy photo montages attached to sappy music, are more than I can stand!  Please PLEASE!!! I really hoped that the community of Christians was made up of more than this!  the number of people continuously regurgitating unconfirmed and often stupidly one-sided views is absolutely ridiculous!

I am not here to discuss whether I agree with Obama’s ideals or how he is running the country.  Honestly the fact that anyone can keep this flaming runaway wagon of a country within the white lines is a feat of unbelievable skill… America is so fickle that we can single-handedly will bring about our own destruction with or without ANY president’s help.

So you didn’t get the president that you wanted, you are mad.. you lost your 401K, and you may have to pay for someone else’s insurance, or foot the bill for their bonus while you bail them out.  So you may pay higher taxes, the president may be a fraud, he may be the “AntiChrist”, he may be secret friends with someone that is completely vile and distasteful to you. So you are angry… about all of this… but why? why are you angry? did  you expect the world to just come whimpering to your feet and give you every thing you wanted? Who the heck asked you how things should go?  Since the beginning of time tyrants, dictators, coups, and all around nasty empires have risen and fallen… and no one has ever stopped to ask… “oh… so mister John Q Christian, what should we do next?  do you like how things are working out for you?”  America is NOT  YOUR COUNTRY!!! HEAVEN IS YOUR COUNTRY!!! get it through your thick heads!  this country is not a “CHRISTIAN” country! It is the same heathen country that it has always been.  Sure many of the founders were Christians, Almost every great empire has been founded on good ideas and good principals… because they work!  But man is always self seeking and ultimately undermines all the good intentions and even the best laid plans can work to benefit the corrupt. Why do you insist on meddling in the politics of a country that you don’t even belong to?

So again… you are angry, you feel betrayed, you feel taken advantage of, you feel like things are not going the way you like… Get Over It!!!  Focus on what matters, people are jobless, people are homeless, people are hopeless, people are directionless!!!

Instead of just adding to the confusion how about you step away from  your stupid,  Protest-a-matic, Spam-a-holic, mailing list and actually help the people that are hurting!  This is an opportunity to promote “LEGAL IMMIGRATION” to the Kingdom of Heaven!

Finding Faith

// April 28th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // My God, My Thoughts

A lot of people talk about faith, we have all been taught that having faith is important. But faith is not so much about believing, trusting, thinking. Faith is not a thing, to hold, or obtain, or understand. Faith is a fiery determination that despite all odds continues to see impossibility as possible. You do not “choose” to have faith, because a choice is based on an evaluation of evidence, Faith is the perfect paradox. Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” Faith is the “substance” the “evidence” The simplicity of faith is that it literally brings into existence things that are otherwise impossible.

I envision a pond, several feet deep, you and I walk up to it… and I tell you that there are rocks just below the surface that you can step on, even though you cannot see them. they are special rocks that always know exactly where you step and will support you perfectly and never allow you to slip.

If you trust me… you will step out to find one confirm your footing and take a step.

That is not faith

Faith is simply taking the step from land to water with every expectation that it is as sure as dry ground.

Faith is taking a flying leap onto the surface and running across the pond to experience the exhilaration of walking on water

So take your step, lose your fear, and trust what you know. There IS something there to hold you up.

Dependency

// April 25th, 2009 // 1 Comment » // My Music

mikeschairWhat truly defines us? is it what we do? or who we know? do our successes, mistakes, or failures define us? I know I have often allowed these things to convince me of who I am. These days, just the very expectations and judgments of others can quickly break us down and cause us to lose hope. Choices… when the labyrinth of choices have conspired against you so that there is no “good” choice. only the “least bad” choice. Where do we turn when all of our good intentions fail us and we end up as wrong as humanly possible. What do we depend on? Who do we depend on?

For me when it seems that everything is stripped away and my soul is bared, I always end up running back to God to hand him my problems.

Faced with the “least bad” of several bad choices this week, I have struggled again with allowing my situation to define me, and becoming hopeless. As I drove to work one day this week. a song came on the radio…called Can’t Take Away that reminded me of what defined me. who I was, and who I depend on…

and nothing can take that away from me…

How’s That Hamster Wheel Treatin Ya?

// March 3rd, 2009 // No Comments » // My Life, My Thoughts

I love hamsters… they are just too cute and cuddly! They are also some pretty energetic little guys! I was at a pet shop a while back and there are hamster cages that have tons of tubes running everywhere! But no matter how many tubes there are… there is always the good old standby…The Hamster Wheel!

For some reason the little guys just love em… they may explore the tunnels for a while but they never fail to put the miles on the hamster wheel…

I started looking at my life over the past few months… and realized… I tend stay on the hamster wheel quite a lot myself… I think maybe it’s because we get popped into our little suburban cages, all so close to each other. We get trapped by the routine… go to work… so you can keep the lights on and get through another month… and hopefully have enough money to get gas so that you can go to work for another month.

To me the hamster wheel represents all the things I do just to get through the day.. so I can get to tomorrow… How lame is that? Tomorrow will not be much different than today so whats the hurry… OK..OK… so the weekend!… we work all week so we can get to the weekend!… so what do you do then?

So I am sitting watching TV… and for a few weeks I have been thinking about the whole hamster wheel routine… and it dawns on me… THIS IS THE HAMSTER WHEEL!… by paying for cable TV I am actually paying for somone to constantly dangle the things that I don’t have in front of me for hours every day, convincing me that what I have is not enough and I want more and I want it now!… Bigger TV’s, Faster Internet, Cooler Cars, Better, Faster, Stronger… More More MORE!!!

Now that I could see what was going on I started paying attention and a whole new world opened up to my eyes… I could see that I was just running on autopilot, I just bumble around watching TV buying whatever they tell me buy… getting excited about whatever they tell me to be excited about… getting angry at what they are angry about… and then when I am done with my “TV Hamster Wheel” I just drive to my “Work Hamster Wheel” and pay for all the things that I apparently “Must Have!”

So… I Cut off the Cable… No TV… 4 weeks now! And guess what? I am suddenly pretty satisifed and getting alot of things done that have been neglected for years. Just in the past few weeks we have reduced our spending… We are stepping off the hamster wheel and beginning to live our life without the constant barrage of “buy this” “you need this” “this is better than what you have” So… How’s That Hamster Wheel Treatin Ya? Ready to step off?

The Mockery of Self-Righteousness

// February 14th, 2009 // 2 Comments » // My God, My Thoughts

I find it very amusing that so many Christians find themselves in a quandary about the state of our nation. Many are angry and wail and moan about the end times… and how Barack Obama will be the downfall of our nation. They quickly jump on the bandwagon of extreme republicans, self-righteously spreading their propaganda and gloom and doom forecasting!

To this point I have maintained a “wait and see” attitude because honestly all the “running around in circles, shouting and waving my arms about how things are going to be horrible” really does no good, it is tireing, and others get annoyed quickly…. Unless you meet up with other RAICSAW(Running Around In Circles Shouting And Waving) groupies then you can all do it together and not annoy each other.

What I have observed is that the current administration seems to be really delivering on the subject of accountability, living within your means, making sacrifices, and so on. Governing a decadent nation is a difficult task so I tend to give the guy a little leeway on decisions that affect everyone in the entire country.

What I have observed is that America is learning the hard way that capitolism can be just as evil as any other type of economic model, all it takes is greed.

What I have observed is that the current president has actually delivered pretty quickly on his campaign promises, he is giving visibility to how the government spends money. all things that we didn’t have before.

For the record I am far more dissapointed in the wailing and protesting political christians around me than I am with Barak Obama.
