Enemy

// May 12th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // My Life, My Thoughts

There is a lot going on this week!   Many of my close friends, family, and brothers and sisters in Christ are most definitely enduring heavy spiritual oppression and attack.   As I have been meditating and praying… trying to discern and see “by faith and not by sight”  I was moved to begin writing this letter to the enemy… I believe that we should all live as spiritual warriors and take the battle to the enemy… oh and just  so you know… all my fellow spiritual warriors out there… the enemy is not each other! :)  we are on the same team!

Enemy,

I feel your hot breath on my neck,
you press down on my shoulders crushing my chest
my breath comes quick and shallow,
I feel your shadow clouding my vision
your fog obscuring my perceptions
you dangle fear in front of me hoping to weaken my resolve
you promise destruction, abandonment, heartbreak
you whisper lies and deceptive thoughts

Enemy,

Your friends are near
they smell the blood of saints ready to be spilled
they come close spoiling for an unfair fight
they hop from one foot to the other
waiting to watch the struggle
they click their tongues… leer… and kick
hoping to incite a reaction…
they savor every ounce of struggle

Enemy,

you’ve made a grave mistake…
you have missed my smile.
your feet may be on my shoulders
but my soul rests in the hand of God
his crushing grip will take you at the last
and it will cradle me like a baby…
Then I will rise in his strength
my sword will cleave the last of you
you will see the rage of the Almighty
as it courses through the veins of his warrior

Enemy,

You might want to think twice next time…

I Can’t Not

// March 6th, 2010 // 8 Comments » // My Life

If your are my friend
and I call you so…
I can’t not care
and let things go

When you’re strong and high
and your spirit soars
I can’t not smile
and wish you more…

When the tables turn
and your heart is torn
I can’t not hurt
or cry or mourn

If you walk and talk
but the walk is a farce
I can’t not admonish
that you mind your heart

If my heart is stirred
and your life will be bettered
I can’t not utter
what the spirit has shared

If I love you I love you
and you cannot escape it
I can’t not be there for you
when you can no longer take it

you may not care now
and you may not care ever
but I can’t not speak
and abandon you never

If you know my heart true
and your honor I’ve earned
then measure me grace
and my counsel don’t spurn

I measure my words
so often with care
but I can’t not speak up
as if I’m not there

If your are my friend
and I call you so…
I can’t not care
and let things go

The Token

The Token

The Token

I once discovered a wonderful place that made me feel so good…

It seemed to fill my deepest needs better than anyone else could…

for only but a token I could feast my every thought

but woe is me the price was steep for my purity was the cost

I fouled my life with deadly vice and secretly played my games

but every time I left the place one token still remained

I vowed each time to never come back and swore it on my soul

but  as I swore I touched the token and stopped just short of whole

the token was my touchstone and always left the mark

my soul was tempered hard as rock and  hungered for a lark

I fought against myself and won oer and oer again

the battle was to go or not… but the token still remained

I fought for years to rid myself of loathing my own lust

but surrendering the token was a price beyond my trust

Then one day my soul awoke and  dared to be so rare

I threw the token out of sight before I was aware…

I  begged for full renewal of my heart my soul my mind

That day I woke a purer man than any other time.

So if you hold a token to your very special place…

be wary lest it bind you hand and foot  to lose the race

remove it from your heart and cast it far away from you

for the token is your  “come back call”

its name… “A Lame Excuse”

The fragile thread

// November 1st, 2008 // 4 Comments » // My Life

from where comes this aching heart

that falls to earth and breaks apart
the fragile thread that held it close
was broken by another’s choice
the choice to love or not is ours
but love withdrawn is fraught with scars
the heart that breaks before it falls
has just the pain of empty halls
but hearts are hearts whether falling or broken
and the fragile thread is only “LOVE” spoken
