Windows or Mac

// October 23rd, 2009 // 4 Comments » // My Favorites

Well a new version of windows is rolling out, Windows 7. To make my joy complete Apple has released a new “I’m a mac/I’m a PC” Ad. I recently made the upgrade to Snow Leopard on my Mac Mini and I have to say it was painless! It actually freed up about 10 gigs of hard drive space and sped up my aging Mac Mini to the point that I really think I can go another year without an upgrade! For the first time I have owned the same computer system for longer than 2 years without a major hardware upgrade… Pretty cool! and its faster now than when I first bought it thanks to the minor purchase of 29$ for the upgrade to Snow Leopard.

Windows 7 on the other hand is not so gentle… 219.99 for the ultimate version of Windows 7 as an upgrade and 319.99 for the full version! I am starting to wonder where the benefit of this operating system will start to show up… It’s obvious that Microsoft has found the way to continue to leach money out of their devoted following with the ridiculous pricing scheme. It is amazing to me how many people continue to be loyal to Microsoft completely oblivious to the peace of mind that they could have by buying a Mac.

They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results… well here we go again!

Curious Thing

// September 1st, 2009 // 3 Comments » // My Life

Our family recently converted to eating organic, non processed foods. We cut out high fructose corn syrup, white sugar, white flour, hormone treated meats and milk.

we replaced those items with agave syrup, raw cane sugar, whole wheat flour and organic, meat and milk. all of these items are more expensive than the more processed versions. However we eat less now because the food is actually more filling. so it equals out…

The curious thing is:
I lost my milk allergy
I lost 30 lbs
I have more energy
I sleep better

and when I add any of those items back to my diet…

I have unbearable cravings to constantly eat
stomach cramps
tension and anxiety
I do not sleep well at all

The truth is you may not actually know the truth about the food you eat… don’t take my word for it…look up the ingredients in the things you use… deodorant, sunscreen, ketchup, dishwasher soap, milk, meat, flour, rice, sugar, splenda the list goes on… the thing that gets me… why does someone not tell us these things carry toxins, and hormones, and chemicals that could cause hundreds of physical ailments? The answer is simple… its not financially smart.

So what do you think about this?

Chaos? or a greater magnitude of Order to an order of magnitude Greater?

// July 28th, 2009 // 4 Comments » // My Thoughts

is chaos just a greater magnitude of order?

Don’t expect this to make sense.. but if it does then maybe you are as weird and eccentric as I am!

There are several theories or laws that we use to describe our observations of the physical world… one of these is the theory of entropy, in summary the theory of entropy states that all systems tend to decay into disarray.  A second theory Chaos theory explores this process of decay and disarray and together these theories form a very convincing case that eventually everything will unravel and the universe will fall apart.  I was happy agreeing with these ideas since they seemed to explain many things that I have witnessed and read about as a physics buff.  Today though… as I was driving home from work… I was just thinking… nothing really and suddenly out of nowhere came this thought.. “the things you see as chaotic seem that way because of  your perspective… Chaos is simply Order at a greater magnitude than you can perceive.”   Well I pretty much spent the rest of the evening thinking about what this means.  here are a few thinking points

  • The wisdom of man is foolishness to God
  • the spinning top that slowly succumbs to gravity, and friction is joining and fully contributing to a bigger, spinning top… Earth!
  • The silly things that I stress out about are actually things that are working together to reveal Gods Plans for my life!
  • a marble rolling toward an ant will seem like a catastrophe to him… to you it is hardly worth noticing. Ironically the path of the marble has everything to do with a system of rules such as inertia, gravity, friction, energy and more; a system that universally governs almost every event on the face of the earth at once. From the micro to the macro the same laws are obeyed. Catastrophe is only relevant to an observer within the realm of their observation.

Anyways!  so that’s what I thought about tonight.   any comments?

Good People Go to Hell!? (Part 2) Bad People Get to Go to Heaven?

I don’t know how to say this more plainly, If you accept the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross… you get to go to heaven!    The thief on the cross accepted that Jesus was the Christ, and asked Jesus to remember him, and Jesus agreed.. and said ‘before the sun has set you will be with me in paradise’. Luke 23:42-43  With this one solitary act Jesus provides on one hand a nice sound smack in the face for all the “legalistic Pharisaical goody goodies” from that day to this one; and on the other hand a glimmer of hope for those of us who are, for lack of better definition, not quite capable of actually being decent enough humans to muster up an honest dose of self-righeousness.  Yep… it seems the playing field is actually in our favor, and I have to say I am pleased as punch about it!

I am what most people would call a “good” man, but most people don’t really know me!  while I generally am an amiable and friendly guy, and I generally do not go around trying to start trouble, and while I don’t generally act nasty, or cuss, or kill little animals for pleasure, I still can’t honestly look you in the eye and say… “Yes I am a good person”  The main reason is that I am truly NOT a good person… I just barely skate by at being decent most times!  If you catch me on the right day I am a real lowlife… I actually started thinking back about some of the really horrible things I have done and thought and I can guarantee you that there is no reasonable shred of a possibility that I can “earn my  way “  out of this hole!  My only hope is depending on the sacrifice of Jesus.

When it comes down to it there is not one single person that has a right to claim being “Good”. We are all pretty much rotten,  Some of us have fooled ourselves into thinking that we have earned the right to enter heaven.  The rest of us must choose to serve God out of grateful service and love for the heavy price that was payed to redeem us.  Ultimately while our lives will be soiled and spotted with misdeeds and poor choices and even blatant wrong doing, our hearts desire otherwise,  and thankfully, because we chose to set aside our pride and accept the gift of Jesus’ sacrifice, Bad People Get to Go to Heaven!

The Apple Effect

// April 16th, 2009 // No Comments » // My Favorites

If you take a look around lately it is easily noticeable that Macbooks and Apple hardware in general is beginning to take a solid foothold in society. I am a recent convert myself being a PC guy all my life totaling up to 15 years of being a PC guru. After years of fighting viruses, spyware, and hours of configuring and reconfiguring and fixing windows, I said no more. 1 1/2 years later I can honestly say that being a Mac owner has saved me more time in a year than I could have imagined.

This week I stumbled over this article by a Windows guru as he attempted to use a mac for 2 weeks.

Living on Air: A Windows guru spends two weeks with a Mac

With the exception of buying one of the most expensive laptops (Macbook Air) I think the article is pretty on par with my experience. Just a matter of note but you can get a Mac Mini that handles probably everything you could want to do, for around five hundred bucks…

The Kind Gothic Guy

// March 30th, 2009 // 3 Comments » // My Thoughts

I was driving home the other day… the snow was coming down in torrents… almost like ready-made snowballs if that could happen :) with snow falling this thick the roads quickly become an ice rink with cars sliding and bumping around like ungraceful hockey pucks. It is fairly common to see cars sprinkled in the ditches along the side of the road. As I passed one such car hopelessly stuck deep in a ditch.. the driver unharmed but very unhappy.. .the following story came to mind… so with that I will share it!

Kind Gothic Guy?

Kind Gothic Guy

There was once a man named Ed that traveled the same road every day to work and back home. He was very familiar with the road and often drove it without thinking. One day a heavy snow started falling while he was driving home and he misjudged the slickness of the road. In an instant he was in the ditch on the side of the road and hopelessly stuck.

following close after and watching the slow slide of the car into the ditch… the pastor of a church slowed down and swerved into the other lane to avoid the sliding car…. he watched as the poor sap slid into in the ditch… “that crazy moron… he should know better than driving so fast! when will these people learn?! well there is nothing I can do for him… besides he probably has a cellphone and is calling the towtruck”

a little later a member of the pastor’s church came driving by… he happened to be on his cellphone with the pastor at that very moment… “Man this snow is really coming down… you will never believe… some moron is out in the ditch over here at the intersection… oh you saw him do it!? how funny! man it’s got to be a bummer for him!”

Soon afterward a junky car passed by… as it neared the stranded car the junky car stopped and a strange Gothic guy got out… he had black eyeliner and tons of tattoos! quite a few metal spikes embedded in his skin. He walked down into the ditch… and up to the stranded car. “Hey man! you ok?” he asked
“umm.. yes… yes I am ok… ” Ed answered..
“well it looks like you are stuck pretty good! you need a ride somewhere? or somethin??” the Gothic guy asked
“well you see I called the tow truck and they said they would be here in about 3 hours” Ed seemed pretty bummed.
“well lets go get a cup of coffee and call the dispatcher and tell them to call you when the towtruck heads this way.” the Gothic guy answered.

So they headed off to the coffee shop and had a cup of coffee…Ed found out his new friends name was Mack. When the dispatcher called Ed back He and Mack started back to the standed car… once the car was safely out of the ditch and Ed was ready to go.. the men shook hands and parted ways.

an hour later Ed was relating his story to the people in his small group… about how a crazy looking Gothic guy came and helped him when he was stranded on the side of the road… the entire time he related his story … the pastor and the small group leader seemed a little preoccupied.

Mack however still had 6 long hours of driving ahead of him…before he got home.

sound familiar?
