Being the SuperCulture

// June 29th, 2010 // 2 Comments » // My Thoughts

There are those that believe that the true “Body of Christ” is a subculture of the modern movement of “Christianity” The idea is that there are many that identify themselves as “Christian” and yet deny very principals and ideals of Christ himself; exchanging them for the more widely accepted “Religious Right” or other similar political views… The idea is that “Christianity” as a whole has become somewhat of a misnomer. Simply put the “Bride of Christ” has moved on beyond the lazy ideals of post modern Christianity. There is a great “calling out” for those who follow Jesus Christ.

I tend to disagree. A subculture depends on the culture that it is within to survive…. we are looking at this the wrong way… Following Jesus Is the SuperCulture…. It has and always will survive…we are not being called out of Christianity… we are apart… we are “Set Apart” as the disciples of Jesus we exist and function in whatever culture that we find ourselves yet we are not dependent on that culture for our existence… We are the SuperCulture that is the Bride of Christ.

How is that for a new perspective?

Comments anyone?

Freedom in Christ

// May 10th, 2010 // 1 Comment » // My Thoughts

I live a very moderate and sober life and I believe that my lifestyle speaks to the commitment I have to honor God in all things… As of late I have tended to abstain from some things for the simple reason that I am growing… I am realizing that true freedom in Christ is the freedom to do what is best for others before myself… by focusing on the needs of others I have the “freedom” to do without for their sake… something that was clearly modeled by Christ. The great thing is that this provides me with a peaceful and judgement free conviction that I am obviously free to act in moderation but I choose not to, for the greater good of others… the minor inconvenience of abstaining is a small thing compared to the sacrifice of Christ

on the flip side

our society is filled with “pretending christians” that have basically morally emasculated every action that has even the slightest possibility of not being “approved by God” I think they are missing the point… actually … I know they are missing the point… this is an individual heart issue… you cannot… must not take the stance that everyone must be ruled by your evaluation of how something should be /should not be understood. This was a problem with the pharisees, they made a vast network of moral laws that protected them from ever breaking God’s laws… in doing so they sterilized their perception of God so much that their hearts could not discern what was truth and was was a made up religion… and they ended up condemning the very God that they claimed to serve to death! It is very easy to forget that Gods word is life and his grace is very real and it is meant for all of these scary subjects that we would all rather avoid… let the Holy Spirit do the convicting and you make sure YOUR heart is right when you choose to participate or not participate in something.

Can you be authentic?

// May 6th, 2010 // No Comments » // My Life

Being authentic is a real catch-word lately… churches and christians, and even companies are really latching on to the idea of being “transparent” and “authentic”. So what is authenticity really? I know lots of people who claim to be authentic and yet no matter how long I spend time in a relationship with them I always feel like something is being left out. I think the real problem is that at some point they bought into the idea that by accepting that they were more worldly than they should be they automagically become authentic… not so. Accepting your current state of morality has nothing to do with authenticity and everything to do with your lack of spiritual discipline!

1John 1:7 says ” But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”

Also Read Ephesians 5

I believe that these passages perfectly describes authenticity… “walking in the light”  If we walk in the light our failures and shortcomings are exposed and we walk “as children of light”  loving the fruits of the spirit… in other words we embrace the exposure of our sins and transgression on one hand accepting our humanity and on the other hand we reach towards the saving grace of God and reject our human nature to be self serving.

Simply living a morally lax lifestyle and doing it publicly is no different from what the rest of the world does… calling it authenticity is a slap in the face to everything that Jesus sacrificed his life for… he did not die so that we could live as we pleased comfortably and flaunt it in the face of the world as “freedom in Christ” … but so that we could see that his sacrifice was in its purest form an example for us to live… or more accurately… die… by.

So in your quest to be… “transparent”… “authentic”…”relevant”… remember to honor the sacrifice that paid for your freedom… and be sure to read Ephesians 5!

so… what do you think?  lets talk about real authenticity!   are you brave enough to expose your life to the light and be set free… can you walk in the light?  lets hear what you got!

Good Question (part 2) My answer

// March 25th, 2010 // 2 Comments » // My Thoughts

I got this question posed to me recently by a young… on-fire christian and I figured it would be great if you answered it… I will post my answer afterward.

I am so depressed… why does it make a difference what people think? I am sick of caring, and I am sick of everyone acting like there is so much time…and making everything funny or light hearted. Like people that take being a christian seriously are so looked down on… I am sick of it! what do I do.

so what do we say to this?

My answer:

Love them.  Take your walk with God seriously, take yourself not so
seriously and let others take resposibility for themselves. Ultimately
you cannot hold someone accountable unless they give you the ability to
do that. It is earned by just loving and caring sometimes for years…

I was answering in a text message so it is a pretty short answer… but the truth is … we cannot cannot make others take responsibility for their lives only God can… and we can make as much of a fuss as we want and it will make hardly a difference in their life…unless we have earned the right as someone that loves them.  It is tough to love people… Love hurts… it hurts more when they act like they don’t love you or they don’t love the things you love… but the sacrifice of love is the only thing that ultimately redeemed us.  Feeling sick with frustration is the sacrifice of love… Solomon said it best “Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.”  Hope deferred… drawn out…seemingly forever!  love that continues to believe that there is hope… even though the time grows long…and it is over and over ignored… can you imagine how sick God is?!!!   Paul says in Romans 8:22-23 “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.”  If all creation groans and labors together… and even we do… can you imagine the Love-sickness and long-suffering of God as he waits for us to “Get it”?

Anyways.. that was my answer… feel free to expound further!
