Being the SuperCulture

By on 6-29-2010 in Featured Posts, My Thoughts

There are those that believe that the true “Body of Christ” is a subculture of the modern movement of “Christianity” The idea is that there are many that identify themselves as “Christian” and yet deny very principals and ideals of Christ himself; exchanging them for the more widely accepted “Religious Right” or other similar political views… The idea is that “Christianity” as a whole has become somewhat of a misnomer. Simply put the “Bride of Christ” has moved on beyond the lazy ideals of post modern Christianity. There is a great “calling out” for those who follow Jesus Christ.

I tend to disagree. A subculture depends on the culture that it is within to survive…. we are looking at this the wrong way… Following Jesus Is the SuperCulture…. It has and always will survive…we are not being called out of Christianity… we are apart… we are “Set Apart” as the disciples of Jesus we exist and function in whatever culture that we find ourselves yet we are not dependent on that culture for our existence… We are the SuperCulture that is the Bride of Christ.

How is that for a new perspective?

  1. I agree ! Look at christainity in history. There is always that contingent of followers that are affiliated with a large governing body that tells them what and how to think, act and say, ie. Pharisees, catholic church, the southern baptist convention, the dictatorship like elderships of the churches of Christ, even within so called independent evangelical type churches there is a growing expectation regarding how one is suppose to respect (read, don’t challenge the ideas of) pastors, worship leaders ect. Is as if even being independent has become it’s own little fad… There have always been the ones that don’t quite fit… They are not rebellious, or set on causing trouble… Just intent, resolved to be followers of CHRIST… nothing more, nothing less. They have been hated by the established forms of religion for millenniums. Starting with Jesus, very seldom were the lives of these few valued or protected by greater christiandom. They have been stoned, whipped, crucified, impaled, burned, excommunicated, banished and shunned by the honchos of Christianity. And yet they exist… Jesus is still preached purely, and a sacred few still grip, with bleeding hands that inspired notion that TRUE religion is not somthing that is born of committee meetings and ordained pastors, but it is somthing thy exist in the filth and squallor of heathen hopelessness… And it prevails… Because it is Divinely sanctioned, and carried out by an army of a few with fierce and innumerable angels standing at thier backs. True religion is this… Take care of widows and orphans and keep yourself unspotted from the world.

The superculture is eternal, unstoppable, and immoveable!

  2. "And I heard another voice from heaven saying, 'Come out of her, My People, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. For her sins have reached up to heaven, and Yahweh has remembered her iniquities. Render her just as she rendered to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix for her double. In the measure that she has glorified herself and live luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, 'I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.' Therefore her plagues will come in one day – death and mourning and famine. Ans she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is Yahweh who judges her." – Revelation 18:4-8.

"christianity" today tells us nothing, very similar to "evangelical", the word has taken on so much brackish water as to be unseaworthy across the smallest puddle. Little wonder that Ann Rice wants to put a lot of space between her and "christianity". The body of christ is an altogether different (though not 100% mutually exclusive to 'christianity") animal.

I was wondering if supra-cultural might work: above culture, representing all cultures and no one in particular.
