The President Without a Country
// September 14th, 2009 // My Thoughts
Pat Boone recently wrote an article on worldnetdaily called “The President Without a Country” he cites Obama saying
“We’re no longer a Christian nation.” – President Barack Obama, June 2007
“America has been arrogant.” – President Barack Obama
“After 9/11, America didn’t always live up to her ideals.”
– President Barack Obama
“You might say that America is a Muslim nation.”
– President Barack Obama, Egypt 2009
He goes on to state, “America is emphatically a Christian nation, and has been from its inception! Seventy percent of her citizens identify themselves as Christian. The Declaration of Independence and our Constitution were framed, written and ratified by Christians. It’s because this was, and is, a nation built on and guided by Judeo-Christian biblical principles that you, sir, have had the inestimable privilege of being elected her president.”
Ok there are a lot of other things in his article that are pretty far reaching, Basically he is jumping on the president bashing wagon like any red blooded conservative christian should do! The funny thing is that every single one of Obama’s quotes are actually true!
- “America is no longer a christian nation” I will not beat this dead horse any longer… go back and read some of my other articles..
- “America has been arrogant” Of course we have! all you have to do is look at our materialistic gimme gimme attitudes, we take what we want and think we never have to pay for it… the whole country is fighting a recession because we are were so busy passing money around hoping we didn’t end up with the hot potato.
- “After 9/11, America didn’t always live up to her ideals.” Wow did he hit the nail on the head, we decided the ends justified the means… and whether it was right or wrong we ignored the principals that the country was founded upon… I call that “not living up to your ideals”
- “You might say that America is a Muslim nation.” more accurately Obama stated “one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.” I have to admit this one is a technicality, And based on the context of what the president was trying to say he is actually right. America is one of the largest countries in the world period. If there is any notable percentage of Muslims in America then we actually are “one of the largest Muslim countries in the world” I think the point here was finding common ground to begin some dialog with other (primarily muslim) countries.
What is my point is all of this… well really I just think conservatives are going a long way out of their way to discredit Obama…and it looks stupid if you ask me.
Whats probably the worst of all of this… is that the majority of so called “Christian Conservatives” have allowed the election of Barak Obama to expose the truth about “Conservative Christianity” that it is just another political machine… “Conservative Christians” no longer follow and serve Jesus Christ, They throw stones, and speak evil of dignitaries, count the sins of others, and you can bet they will have their materialistic 60 inch flatscreen tuned to FOX NEWS while widows and orphans are neglected just outside their door, and they pay the pastor of their church to handle “Prison Ministry”
Look I am no “lover of Obama” by any stretch of the imagination. But there is no doubt in my mind that all of this political garbage that is being thrown around by “Conservative Christians” is complete and utter propaganda, and it is absolutely wrong. I have no problem discussing facts, but distorting the facts so that they fit your already warped perspectives so that you can promote an agenda that JESUS CHRIST never condoned is wrong! I am so tired of people running around regurgitating un-researched propaganda by political pundits like Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh. These guys make their living off of making a mountain out of a molehill!… you are just pouring the money into their pockets… of course they will tell you what you want to hear! They will never fail to introduce you to a new person you can obsess over and get all worked up about and make you so angry you could bust a blood vessel but all you will ever really do is get together with all your “like minded” buddies and talk about how “this country is going to hell in a handbasket”
I am done with this…

Jason- On this one I think there are generalizations that are unfair. It’s like saying “women are…” or “men are…”. It doesn’t fit me and many of my friends are just head over heels in love with Jesus and want Him to be the centerpiece of their lives. I agree that SOME christians have misrepresented who Jesus is, and who we are as christians. But, we cannot throw out the baby with the bath water. We must pray and pray some more that those misrepresenting Jesus and our faith will see the light and come back to Him.
Wayne, Thanks for the comment, I would have to say that you are entirely right about my generalizations, however those that do not fit the generalization know who they are in this case… The big problem here is that we continue to overlook this type of behavior in our brothers and sisters that claim the same “Christian Ideals” I am definitely an advocate of extending grace to everyone, however I have absolutely no patience with todays equivalent of the Pharisees. I think we put too much emphasis on the word “Christian” these days thinking that it groups us with a broad community of similarly agreeing “Christ Followers” But the word is far removed from it’s origins almost as far removed as the word “GAY” is from meaning “happy”; and there is more of a chance these days that we are grouping ourselves with a socio-political group that is known for their bigotry; very much like the Pharisees that Jesus constantly contended with.
I, like you have many friends are people that are head over heels in love with Jesus, The disturbing thing here is that recently some of these friends have decided that jumping on the bandwagon of political activism is something that Jesus would endorse… and they are proliferating absurd, distorted views… that can only be defined as propaganda. Ultimately while my generalizations may be a bit unfair, The problem is that a good majority of “Christian” leaders are either involved or encourage this type of behavior… and my generalizations are only to give others pause to think what they might be associating themselves with…
In the end Grace covers us all, including the misbehaving… but I am not one to remain silent while many march into a new era of “Crusades” only to darken the stain on the world; of regretful things done in the name of Christ.
I’ll post something longer a little later on this , but one of the key errors in what Mr. Boone said is his stance on GOD having ANY nation being “HIS nation…” , including us. Folks, they are ALL HIS nations, EQUALLY. That doesn’t mean that some do indeed have, and follow imperfectly, some judeo-christian values: yes, we have that blessing here, that does not make us any more “HIS” than Saudi Arabia, or North Korea. If you drink this Kool-Aid, MANY strange ideas will necessarily follow.
More on this later. Let’s get gospel and Kingdom centered, brothers/sisters. And the Kingdom covers a LOT of ground.

Glad that Boone’s article wasn’t any longer than it was. Yup, lots of ‘filler’ in there: did you notice the transition he made between 70% of americans SELF-IDENTIFYING as “christian” and then later making the bald statement of america being 70% christian. These are two RADICALLY different statements. Does Pat B. for ONE SECOND really believe that we are 70% christian ?? I’m going to guess here that it all depends on which sermon he is currently preaching……. At any rate, that stat is a (very bad) joke.
Also, I much prefer Martin Luther’s quote (at least commonly attributed to Luther….someone correct me if this is wrong):
“I would rather be ruled by a competent Turk [unbeliever], than by an incompetent believer.” I like the quote , no matter who said it, and I think it was Luther. And the fuss about Romney was…..???
MOre later,

Greg,
I know at some point I have to get tired of being bummed out that people would rather recite worn out cliche’s rather than think for themselves… but it really gets old that my brothers and sisters are truly convinced that America has garnered some supernatural umbrella of protection and divine approval. Arrrgh when will it stop!?
It will stop, I’m GUESSING, when these brothers and sisters get a better grasp of God’s bigger, broader, plans, specifically the KINDGDOM of GOD. Much of what is taught on this, IMO , is just crap. Maybe start with George Eldon Ladd and get a solid theology of what GOD has been up to for millenia. The trick is to teach truth in the midst of so much nonsense, posing as “the fight that must be won or else…..”. While keeping your sanity, or what’s left of it.
Craziness in this area has had, and still has in most places, the big stage and the bright lights. Stay cool, God is not anxious.
And eat some okra……

Interesting sidebar to your article is the thot you hit on: getting folks to think for themselves , and I would add, while humbly staying open to input from the outside, esp. outside of whatever ‘box’ we are used to. This is a struggle in ev. circles, because using our brains is not always seen as a God honoring excercise (go figure), and sometimes the “get under submission” card is played if our thoughts don’t jive with what’s playing on the leader’s channel. Big issue, here. Also the issue of allowing one big, fat, sermon a week be all the meal we need: this is , for many, the de facto setting…..and a great way to starve yourself (while not knowing why you are so da^&*& hungry…).
Do a post sometime on the christian virtue of learning to feed yourself (with the help of the ENTIRE body of Christ). That would be a great post.
OK…the coffee has REALLY kicked in….end of rant.
Greg R
greg,
good points! OK if you twist my arm… maybe I will write a post like that…
seriously though thanks for the idea and I will get right on it!
