Diary of a Dead Beat Dad – Dark Knight

By on 3-26-2009 in My Life

I watched the Dark Knight movie not long ago and something really grabbed me at the end was that the idea was presented that Bruce had to become “more than a hero” That people needed someone to blame and hate, but that they also needed the hope that Batman inspired. I really liked so many aspects of this ideal because, in this jaded age no one beleives in hero’s anymore anyways. What really struck me while I was thinking about this, was that many people feel the need to be the “hero” in their lives- presenting an impeccable exterior and trying to hold it all together, all the while dealing with inner conflict and frustrations and even anger.
What if we decided to become “more than christians” ?
The reality is that our messed up lives, all the problems that we face and the fears that we deal with – Are… what people need to see! They need to see that there is hope even in the struggle to deal with life, and that christians are not exempt…(as some would like everyone to believe).
Someone will always point and make fun, or take advantage, but it is how we deal with these things that allows the love of christ can show through. If it seems we never have problems how can we relate to a world full of problems.
I constantly struggle with the choices I make in dealing with my firstborn sonĀ  But this one is huge for me! and there is really no safe way to deal with things. Going on 10 years of propaganda about how horrible I am as a person has consistently eaten away at any trust my son might have in me. At this point my phonecall is either ignored or hung up on. And the last conversation between me and my ex was that she wants to “take” my parental rights… Ultimately no matter how this situation swings for me or my ex there is a little boy having to take all of these battles and choose a side… who to love and who to hate…
I have to become more than a dad – the problem is how that looks is not always as appealing and finished and romantic as the end of a great hero movie.
