woo hoo! Im right with ya! I get so frusterated by the NOISE in my life, but Im the one who keeps turning up the volume. I realised a few weeks back that when my house was clean and quiet, the kid was happy and I had nothing to do, I flipped on the tv, the radio, a cd, the internet, the phone, texting, anything to kee me busy and not have any quiet time...then I wonder why I haven;t had time to spend reading the word or just reflecting on th good things in life...
I'm all with you on cutting of the TV, although, I'm not the autority on that in my household so I can just keep it turned OFF when it's up to me..and when I have some empty time to fill,,,I cn choose NOT to make a call, or watch a show or check my email...but seems like those things always work they're way back into my life and crudd up all my time... : )

Once a year, during Lent, I do a media fast. I dont watch TV, listen to music, or get on the internet, and I limit my reading to only a few books.

Well, I do check my email, but I limit it to 15 minutes.

The idea is to stay away from entertainment media. So no comics, or novels, either.

After the 40 days or so of Lent comes Easter on Resurrection Sunday. It's really an awesome experience.

I find this useful because culture it constantly screaming at us in many different ways. Often we make little compromises here and there and over time our conscience grows numb to certain things.

This help to "push the reset button".

Also it becomes peaceful after a while and you get used to the quiet on the way to work, and learn how to listen to the Spirit.

For me this fast is a great thing because its a short term goal that I know I can do and it gets great results.
