the lost…

On the subject of the lost

I always shake my head when christians talk about the “lost” as if they drowned at sea..  there is always this connotation that the lost are that way for good. there is really no expectation that they will become “un-lost” this goes back to to the story Jesus told about the two men in the temple.  One man thanking God that he was not like that “lost” man who was a horrible person and was detestable in every way; the other man beating his chest begs God to be merciful with him.
wouldn’t it be funny if we treated someone that was actually “lost” the way  we treat the lost
” So some guy drove by the other day and he rolled down his window and asked,  ’hey bro,  do you know where 112th and MLK hwy. are?’   first of all I looked at him in amazement that he had no idea that he was only 3 streets away!  then I told him that the car that he was in was completely unacceptable and that there was no way that he could get to  112th and MLK hwy in that car; he would need a different car and I would be glad to sell him mine, because I have plenty. he had the nerve to tell me that his car was fine and he just needed to get to 112th and MLK hwy!!  I looked at him in sorrow… he was so misled!  how could he be so blind that he couldn’t see that I was his only hope…. he was so lost!… I just shook my head and walked away wishing that he would be more open to letting me help him get to 112th and MLK hwy.”
I hope you get the idea..
The lost.. just have no idea how to get to Jesus.. they don’t need our pity they need our help. all we have to do is point the way… thats what we are for… signposts that point the way to Jesus!
remember you were lost once too. possibly somewhere in Dallas, or New York, most probably in an airport terminal.  You knew where you were supposed to be but getting there is a little confusing!  all you need is a quick point in the right direction and things are much better. How often would you ask for directions if everyone you asked started an oration about how you actually know how to get there- you are just being prideful and ignoring the signs!
so give ‘em a break ok?  just be decent, like its not a big deal and point em in the right direction.. real casual like!  maybe even tell ‘em you are walking that way anyways and take a jaunt with ‘em
… hmm The “Art of the Amble”…  Thats my next topic.. I think you will like it

    AMEN!
Why do we feel the need to use up our entire “christian vocabulary” on each and every encounter!!???

Not long ago my wife, Kat, and I went to Atlanta for a fun weekend. We rented a car and when we went to pick it up it was a neat little sports car. Just what a 58 year old guy needs to spark his mid-life crisis. Okay so I am a little old for a mid-life crisis since I am probably 10-20 years from my final breath. What does that have to do with my comment? Nothing but I thought I would share it anyway.

While in Atlanta I took a few, well, many wrong turns. My wife would always ask, “Are we lost?” my reply was no, not necessarily. The truth was sometimes I was lost but I refused to admit it.

That is how those wondering around this life without knowing the true Jesus are. They are lost but everything in their world does not point that out.

I believe my job as a Christian is to be like a compass and always point people I run into towards Jesus. Sometimes that is a dramatic action but often it is a gentle nudge or just a living example.

Rarely do people respond to a message about how much of a loser they are and how they are gonna burn baby burn. But most will respond to someone’s story which relates where they were, where they are and where they believe they are going.
