The one thing that many Christians often run into is that their religion runs out once you run up against the real situations... they will yammer on all their lives that life starts at conception, and they will condemn abortion but what happens if your wife has a tubal pregnancy? all the sudden all options are on the table and saving your wife makes perfect sense!? That is why on political issues I constantly have to remind myself that a biblical worldview does not require me to require others to make the same choices that I presuppose that I would make in a totally hypothetical situation! Of course we all know what is good and right and we always want to do those things... I think there are precious few people on this earth that truly want to make bad choices and be evil. Most of us want to do the right thing but in the moment have no idea what that looks like...or selfishness takes control... thus the need for grace. I would have to say that in matters of government, and politics if I were to have opinions I would have to look at things from a utilitarian standpoint. what is best for everybody. I do admit utilitarianism is a slippery slope... but if you apply "love the Lord God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself" to a utilitarian perspective. I think that you could make some pretty sound decisions that maintain individual choice and freedom and still promote order. After all, that's what separates Christians from the rest of the world. We (Christians) are to place God above all else. He even tells us if we put Him first, he will supply ALL our needs - including the economic needs. We all have free will, but it almost angers me when I hear professing christians say that the economic problems in our world should take a higher priority then a living sole.
