Hypotheticals

// October 22nd, 2008 // My Life, My Thoughts

Hypothetical situations are a pain!    but are also great tools to find out what we believe

I am dealing with a few hypothetical situations that I find difficult to answer truthfully because they bring me face to face with some serious issues in my character, ethics, morality or my understanding of  Gods principals.
a few assumptions to start.
#1. we should never lie
#2 we should never kill
#3 you should always do the right thing.
situation 1
you are smuggling jews in the trunk of a car(illegally) in Nazi Germany,  a guard stops you and asks you if you have seen any Jews.  what do you do?
situation 2
300 people are trapped in a building that is known to have bombs planted inside, a bomber confronts you holding a detonator promising to pull the trigger if you don’t do what he asks. – what he asks is impossible. what do you do?
situation 3
You wake up  and someone is in your house they have a gun and aim it at you with full intent to pull the trigger. You know that there is a  99.9% chance your entire family will be dead, kidnapped, raped, in within minutes after he pulls the trigger, killing you. What do you do?
do you lie to save some?
do you kill one to save many?
do you fight to preserve your life? for the sake of your family?
what does that mean that you beleive?
To me this is where everyone has to get off of the moral high horse and face the reality that what we have been taught may not be exactly what God said. I am not saying the bible is wrong… not at all, I am saying that “you” may be wrong about what it says.
so give me some feedback.. what does the bible say about those things?
fair warning to comment posters!!! be sure of your comments because comments are fair game!  while this is not a hostile environment, rhetoric will probably not survive long  here!
